Children’s and Youth Choir Director

Reports to: Director of Music
Status: Part-time
The Children’s and Youth Choir Director for First Unitarian Society leads three choirs, comprising singers ages 4-18. The choirs rehearse weekly and contribute to worship services once per month September through May. Rehearsal schedule and dates of worship service participation are flexible.
Our Children’s & Youth Choir program is a vital part of the life of the congregation. Youth choirs provide music for some of our most important worship services of the year. The program is welcoming and inclusive to all singers who wish to join. Singers grow musically, personally, and spiritually. Many alumni of the program are inspired to continue singing in college and into adulthood.

Minimum Qualifications & Core Competencies
  • Music reading skills
  • Able to manage groups of children
  • Piano skills to accompany choirs in rehearsal
  • Organizational skills
  • Technology relevant to the position.
  • Preferred but not required: Undergraduate degree in Music (completed or in progress). Experience working with children’s choirs. Knowledge of vocal development and technique. Piano skills to accompany choirs in worship. Skilled vocalist.
Applicants need not be Unitarian Universalist. Salary is competitive, and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
