St. Thomas Aquinas is looking for an accompanist to help play and lead a group of singers and musicians for approximately 4 Masses per month. An ideal candidate would be bilingual in English and Spanish, and would be able or willing to learn to give basic instructions in Spanish. Most of our groups have at least a couple of bilingual singers, so complete fluency in Spanish is great, but not necessary. Accompanists should be not only skilled at playing, but able to run rehearsals and warm-ups before each of the Masses..
This position could be formed to fit the right candidate. For instance, this could mean playing both the 4:30pm Mass in English and the 6:30pm Mass in Spanish on Saturdays approximately 2x/month; OR it might mean playing the 6:30pm Mass in Spanish on Saturday every week; OR it might mean playing both the 6:30pm Mass in Spanish on Saturday and the 1:00pm Mass in Spanish on Sunday (which would be the same music for both). We are ideally looking for a team player who might consider taking on a larger leadership role in helping to grow our group of musicians at our Masses in Spanish.
We have a Steinway D and a Johannus Organ in the main church, along with quality pianos and instruments in our rehearsal spaces. Additional opportunities for playing for other Masses and Services are available if that would be of interest. Pay is calculated per rehearsal and service, approximately $150 weekly and could be negotiated if taking on additional playing opportunities, etc. We also have a separate posting for a Choir Accompanist, and that role could be combined. Please email Greg Buchberger, greg@stamdison.org with any questions or to apply/schedule an audition and interview.
